Getting My New Prosthesis

So, for those of you who don’t know. I have been trying for YEARS to get insurance approval for a new myoelectric prosthesis. Yes, I no what you’re thinking, I am a congenital amputee so how hard is that to prove to insurance? Well… Depending on your coverage, some insurance providers will not cover myoelectric hands, PEROID! I went through so many different Insurance companies and they refused to cover my arm. I couldn’t even get partial coverage and pay the rest out of pocket. It was beyond aggravating!

I feel for any individual or parent experiencing this same BS, I really do! So if you are someone experiencing this same struggle, please do not give up. If there is a will, there is a way! I will also provide a few resources below (these companies may be able to help you!)

Anywhoo… When I received a call from my prosthetic clinic, Arm Dynamics, I was so ecstatic. And they were just as, if not, more excited for me (what a great group of people!) I planned a trip to freezing Portland, Oregon and stayed for 3 weeks to undergo fittings and physical therapy. I cannot express enough how helpful the Arm Dynamics team were. This prosthetic arm is by far the most comfortable arm that I have ever had and I found the physical therapist really encouraging.
